VEHICLE TACTICS
Fighting from a vehicle, vehicle tactics, vehicle counter ambush, vehicle close quarters battle, VCQB, bailing from a vehicle or vehicle close quarters combat are all terms used when talking about defending yourself or your family in a deadly force encounter in and around a vehicle.
In the Law Enforcement Firearms Training community there are numerous different techniques being taught. The techniques in these videos are combat proven techniques and could one day save your life in a vehicle ambush.
The purpose of this video segment is to educate you on some different tactics when fighting in and around a vehicle. REMEMBER don't bail out of the vehicle unless it disable!! Your vehicle maneuverability equals survivability. If you bail out and the vehicle is still mobile you greatly reduced your mobility options available.

Vehicle Tactics - Holster Placement Inside A Vehicle
The ability to quickly and efficiently secure your firearm in a vehicle is a critical task that must be practiced in your vehicle tactics training. You have to practice where is the best holster carry position for you. In a vehicle I personally like to carry on my pistol on my strong side because to the ability to get my handgun while releasing the seatbelt near simultaneously.
Vehicle Tactics - Holster Placement Inside A Vehicle

The ability to efficiently and effectively secure your firearm in a vehicle is a critical task that must be practiced in your vehicle tactics training. When it comes to pistol placement in a vehicle I believe it belongs in a holster. Some people like to place them in different compartments in the vehicle, this will definitely increase your time to access your firearms. Others place them between the seat or under their leg for “easier access”. The problem with this technique is your mobile vehicle offers you mobility options. If you have to do some type of evasive driving there is a chance your pistol could get dislodged and wind up on the floorboard.
Now the argument will be, do I keep in in my normal appendix carry position or have it on the strong side. When you in your vehicle there is no need to conceal the pistol, remove the shirt so your pistol is exsposed for easier access. I prefer my strong side. The issue I have with appendix is sometimes my pistol grip gets behind the seatbelt. The problem comes in when I might have to do some evasive driving and the seat belt locks up pinning my pistol under the seat belt.
Vehicle Tactics - Shooting Through The "V"

If you have to fire your pistol inside the vehicle, considered shooting through the "V".
The “V” is the gap in the door and the A pillar of the vehicle. When possible, verses shooting through the windshield shoot the the “V”. This ensures, as long as your marksmanship is there a first round hit.
War HOGG Tactical - Shooting From Inside A Vehicle Through the Windshield
Shooting through a windshield / auto glass, what really happens to your bullet
In my opinion shooting through the windshield should be your last option. I understand the internet makes it look cool but there are some thing to definitely take into consideration. First, do I have any eye pro on, distance to the target, angle of your windshield, angle to the threat, type of ammo being used and have I ever shot through auto glass. The reason for the eye pro question is when you fire through laminated auto glass, there is going to be all kinds of glass shards flying around. I personally don’t want to possibly put myself out of the fight by getting debris in my eyes. The other issue when shooting through the windshield is now my vision is going to get distorted by all the cracks because of the bullet impacts on the glass.

Rick Hogg talking with law enforcement officers about the effects of bullets on a vehicle windshield both from firing out and firing in a vehicle. The are numerous different factors that can effect the bullet as it is going through the windshield, angle of the glass, type of projectile, angle to the threat ect.
Vehicle Tactics - Exiting A Vehicle Solo
Exiting out of a vehicle is your last resort during vehicle tactics.
Exiting the vehicle is the last option in my opinion because the vehicle’s mobility offers you options and survivability. There are numerous different factors and situations on which direction to go, the threat or threats and situation will drive that but try to rehearse as many what ifs as possible.
When it comes time to exit the vehicle there is a methodical way to work the process. First with your left hand go underneath the crossbody strap of your seatbelt and release the seatbelt. Use your left arm to sweep the seatbelt out of the way. Simultaneously start moving the firing hand to your pistol. This is why I like the strong side carry in a vehicle. The support hand can either open the door or move to the pistol.
When opening the vehicle door, I use my left foot to hold the door open so it does not swing back and hit me in the shin. I bring my pistol to my ready position or to a low ready or sul position. Some people teach to bring the pistol to their head near their temple. I can not support this technique for a couple reasons. First if anyone were to wrap you up there is nothing you can do with your pistol and it makes it super easy for them to take the pistol. Second the idea of pointing a gun at your head does not sit well with me. What happens if you trip, fall or bump into something, your finger goes on the trigger and the muzzle is pointing at you head. I have yet to hear a good reason or the why for using the temple index position.

Vehicle Tactics - Movement Around A Vehicle
Movement around a vehicle Law Enforcement Firearms Training. There is no clear cut answer's to a dynamic situation when it comes to something happening around your vehicle. You have to train for the worse case situation and have a plan when training moving around a vehicle and vehicle tactics.
